Parent Letter - 10/25/24

October 25, 2024
By Bill Sharp

As an aspiring leader working in a public school, I remember a conversation I had with a member of the school’s leadership team about job opportunities in school leadership.  When I mentioned that RCS was looking for a secondary principal and that I was considering it, he responded, “Oh, Christian schools are where administrators go to end their careers.”  As a Christ-follower for nearly 30 years, I smiled on the outside but was quite offended on the inside.  His question got me thinking, and the question on my mind was, “Why Christian education?”  We know Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28:19 to “…go and make disciples of all nations”, which is not just a command to travel to foreign countries but also to share with those in our country who do not yet know the Lord.  Was it right to leave the “mission field” of public education and serve in a private Christian school?  After much prayer, I was compelled to pursue the position here at RCS, and now, seven years later, I thank God for the chance to minister here.

Over the next few weeks, we will tackle the question “Why Christian education?” and address Biblically supported reasons why we, as educators, and you, as parents, should pursue this partnership. We will also give practical ways to make our partnership even stronger.

The book fair is in full swing in the library.  Classes of all grade levels have had the chance to stop by and peruse the large selection of options provided by I-55.  There are selections at all grade levels and Christian school appropriate.  A portion of the proceeds come back to the school to be used to enhance our library and elementary education program.  Each teacher has selected a stack of books they have placed on their “wish list.”  So, if you are looking for a way to bless them, stop by and consider blessing them with a purchase or two from their list.

The staggered arrival times for afternoon carline pickup have worked amazingly.  Our traffic flow has been smoother, and we have not backed up on Belmont since it started.  Thank you to those who have responded and have taken a few extra minutes before arriving on campus – it has been a HUGE help!

Please keep our athletes in prayer as they wind down the fall season and gear up for winter.  Our volleyball teams will be participating in the VMAC tournament through next week, and our Varsity volleyball team will be playing in the state tournament following that.  Cross country is finishing with the league meet next week and the chance for a few of our runners to qualify for states.  Pray also for our cheerleaders, basketball, and swim teams as they begin their seasons next week.

Thank you all for your continued partnership in Educating Hearts And Minds For Christ.

All 4 Him!
