!Saludos! Spanish is SUPER important in today's world of commerce and travel. I lived in Colombia and my second child was born in Costa Rica. I'm glad that several of my students will be traveling to Spanish speaking countries this summer. Keep practicing muchachos!

REAL SPANISH....RIGHT HERE & NOW
This summer P.J. used his Spanish abilities while teaching children in California.

May 5 Dale Langford was in the movies and people were talking loudly in Spanish....So he told them, "Silencio, por favor."


May 2 Nathan Brazeau says that he has learned Spanish by using a Japanese Animation Program called "Bleach".

April 15th Will Patterson reports that he understood a Spanish greeting while he was out in public. Spanish is ALL AROUND US! LISTEN for IT!

April 1st Alex Wheeler said that he spoke in Spanish in a restaurant.
April 1st George Chumley reports playing soccer with Spanish speaking players.
March 4th Joy Abott says that she used a Spanish number word in a restaurant. Way to go!

Feb. 28 Caroline Bryan reports that she used Spanish "food" words during a recent meal.

December 16th  Alia J.  reports that she greeted a Spanish speaker by saying, "Feliz Navidad".  :)

December 10th - 1st period 9th graders made Christmas ornaments with Miss Cosby's 2nd grade class.  Each ornament was labeled with it's Spanish word.  Students learned Christmas vocabulary and these ornaments will be used on the Chapel tree.

October 30th  Shannon and Heather report that they read Spanish at the JC Penny Home Store in Colonial Heights.  They read the Spanish first and then check their understanding by reading the English last.  Way to use your Spanish!

October 19th  Amanda Jones reports that she did her "in car" driving  with a Colombian today.  She was able to tell her that her hous  

Spanish CLUB
On Wacky Warrior Day the Spanish Club will be selling candy to help with their project.


The club is selling candy after school to make money for the Heifer Project. We will send an animal to South America to help a family earn a living and send their children to school. NEXT MEETING: 

Several memebers enjoyed the Fiesta Navidena en the Trophy Room.

P.J. Roark was elected as treasurer.  Dues are $2 each.

Next Meeting :  This year we'll be  meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.  Everyone can participate in Spanish Club.  Members from the Honorary Society must be elected as officers.

You can write poems and send them in for potential prizes!

You can plan activities and elect new officers!!!  It's all in the big yellow book.....responsiblities and ideas.

Spanish Speaking - COUNTRY STUDY











1. Ask your pastor or church leaders to help you locate an email address of a missionary in South America, Central America or Spain. It must be a Spanish speaking country. Email the missionary and request to be their pen-pal. Some missionaries may be coming home on furlough or state-side assignment. Try to get a missionary who is CURRENTLY living on the field and planning to be there for this year....through June 08.

2. Throughout the year we will be exploring topics on the country of your missionary and corresponding with the missionary. You need to get a pocket folder to KEEP your reports.

3. THE FIRST TOPIC: a famous Latin from your country

2nd Topic - Holidays

3rd Topic natural resource/product This report will be HAND - written using books and information students bring into the classroom. Students will chart or use objects to demonstrate a process. They may need a poster board or cardboard box to hold items. Students will explain the impact and importance of the the resource or product. Students will write to their missionary to ask about the influence of this resource upon their people group. Ex.: Do the people with whom they minister work in industry related to the product or are their daily lives impacted in some way by this resource? Students will demonstrate the process of getting the product to market. How does it impact the region or global markets? DUE Jan. 28th 10 points are deducted for each day that they are late. PARENTS please assist your student in contacting the mssionary. THIS is IMPORTANT!!!! It is up to your student to find a missionary that will respond from your church!!!! If they are not receiving emails back.. your student should ask your pastor or other church leader for other ways to contact a missionary.


4. The 4th topic - Religion in your chosen country. Students will give a report over religion in their count
 
4th topic! 2 page report on religion...in their country. Use college ruled paper 1. History of 2. Categories- Catholic, Evangelical, Other? Unreached groups? 3. religious practices 4. ask missionary to give you his opinion on Christian growth in the country 5. paragraph explaining how you would be a full time missionary there...strategy...what would work? 2 pages hand written...charts must be extra pages. DUE MAY 15th points deducted every day late
 Second Report due December 7th Holidays in your chosen country. 1 recipe Include a copy of correspondance with yoru missionary discussing what they do during the holidays to minister to their people group. Projects will be assigned per level of Spanish to discuss your paper.
